Retail
As the retail sector in India charts the organized path, there’s one addition - it is making in its journey — Information Technology (IT) to match its global counterparts. The retail sector, which accounted for 1.2 per cent of the total domestic IT market in India in 2006, is all set to grow at a CAGR of 32.5 per cent for the period 2006-11.
With a larger number of stores across geographies and with the width and depth of merchandise getting larger, it would be impossible to manage without an integrated IT solution.
In the wake of the country’s retail revolution, the organized sector is spending consciously on IT solutions to bring down costs. It’s not only the retail sector that has adopted IT applications across the country, domestic IT solution providers, too, have now embraced retail to come up with customized retail solutions and equip with the ability to intelligently secure consumer data inside their organization, bolster security and achieve compliance with all data privacy mandates.
Why Retail Sector needs "Network Security"
Driven largely by the proliferation of security breaches, lawmakers and card issuers, consumers are holding retailers accountable for the protection of personal data. Today, retailers that suffer a security breach in which customer’s data is lost or stolen, face widespread negative publicity, lost business, lawsuits, and fines that can threaten the very viability of the business.
Industry standards, government regulations, and security best practices are all leading retail organizations to adopt encryption of sensitive data, not only in transport across the Internet, but as it is stored and shared within the organization.
